Daily Clean Up (5pm)

Even though the practice of informal recycling on the old dump site was never condoned, the Municipality has allowed a number of residents from the disadvantaged communities to recycle at the transfer station under controlled conditions.

The Municipality spent an additional R 80 000 providing a level working area, proper drainage and litter control measures. Approximately 15 20 people recycle in this controlled environment and earn money by selling recyclables to Walker Bay Recycling. Although the existing practice is not ideal, about 50 tons per month are recycled in this manner.

Note: The municipality acknowledges that this is not the best style of recycling and intends to upgrade this process when funds become available.
